Important dates for the May 19, 2026 Primary Election:

Candidates:

  • 09/11/2025    First day for candidates to file for office (included Precinct Committeepersons)
  • 01/19/2026    First day for candidates to file a voters' pamphlet statement 
  • 03/03/2026  Last day for elected incumbent candidates to file for office (does not apply to Precinct Committeepersons)
  • 03/10/2026   Last day for candidates to file for office
  • 03/12/2026   Last day for candidate's statements to be filed for inclusion in voters' pamphlet
  • 03/13/2026   Last day to withdraw candidacy

County, City & Districts: 

  • 01/19/2026     First day for measure arguments to be filed for inclusion in the voters' pamphlet 
  • 02/27/2026   Last day for district or county to file text of referral/ballot title for challenge period
  • 03/19/2026    Last day for measure and explanatory statement filings (completed and noticed)
  • 03/23/2026   Last day for measure arguments to be filed for inclusion in the voters' pamphlet

  • 04/04/2026   Ballots mailed to military/overseas voters

Nonpartisan County Candidate Positions:

If no candidates for Commissioner receive a majority of the votes (50%+1), the two candidates who receive the highest number of votes in the Primary are nominated and moved to the General Election (ORS 249.088). 

*Clerk, Sheriff, and Treasurer positions must be elected at a General Election.  This race will only appear on the May 2026 Primary ballot if three or more candidates file.  If a candidate wins the majority of the votes (50%+1), they will advance to the General Election unopposed.  If two or less candidates file, the contest will only appear on the November 2026, General Election ballot. (ORS 249.091).
